Anchors, much like roots, keep you planted so you can bear much fruit (John 15:5 and Colossians 2:7). Who or what you choose as an anchor can be the difference of life or death to your vessel. It keeps you in one place in-between missions. As such, the proper anchor for your vessel is one that needs to be carefully considered. After all, it is a safety mechanism that keeps the vessel and its sojourners alive and functioning. Finding ancient wisdom through texts is a great starting point for finding the correct anchor for your vessel.
A few thoughts to consider when deciding on the proper anchor for your vessel. Ask yourself, what holds you steady when things are not moving? What holds you steady when you are in-between missions. Many vessels have succumbed to destruction while simply in port (in-between missions). By not having a rock-solid anchor and being tied to that unmovable force, your vessel can quickly become damaged by bumping into mediums it was not designed to bump up against. Your vessel was made for the particular medium its designed for i.e. the grace (water) that holds you, not something it wasn’t designed for let’s say a dock or a rock or a beach.
What should this anchor be? Having something that stands the test of time, that won’t change in a corrosive environment, something that will have some give, but won’t let go of you. Many ancient traditions have looked to religion for this anchor. After all, many religions have stood the test of time and provide positive living standards that are for the benefit of many. Having a religious practice is a great way to discipline the soul to learn the essence of what it means to be human. There are many options available in the world and each has its own beauty that leads souls to the light of truth. Whichever path is chosen, the spirit of truth seeking needs to be lit in your soul. If the religious practice snuffs out this spirit of truth, it might be time to find a better one that helps flame it. In the end, I believe this truth seeking will always find its way back to studying the bible and the secrets of truth hidden in its discipline. Ultimately the spirit of truth will lead to a person becoming “anointed”. It is through this being anointed that the eternity of your soul is discovered. (GENESIS 1:26)
For this reason, a top tier religious practice will help anchor a person’s soul. As long as it is denser than the medium the vessel is riding on it could work as an unshakable force to keep the vessel in place. These unshakable forces spiritually are the principles and attitudes that no matter what storm is present, they don’t give way. They are principles of truth and the spirit of truth that permeate all circumstances and situations. They are “matters of fact” that can’t be argued with no matter how intense the opposition is. Importantly, the dignity of EVERY human being needs to be honored as well. Any violation of these principles, should send red flags about how good of an anchor it actually is. Lastly, not every anchor is right for every boat either. It also needs to fit the land it is embedded in and be a good match to the vessel itself.
Some things to consider when searching for a solid religious practice. Does the Anchor have give to it? If it’s too rigid it could wreck or even sink the boat when the tides of life pass by. Good anchors allow a vessel to move with the waves but keep you put in a known location. A few other aspects to consider. Is the anchor flexible enough? Is it light enough to not weight down the boat? How is it connected to the vessel? Too tight of a connection and it could damage the vessel. Too loose of a connection and there is no point in having an anchor. What type of terrain will it be used in (rocky bottom, vs sandy bottom etc.) Carefully considering these attributes will also help sift out which religious practice to attempt to start with. Ultimately, let the light of truth and truthful speech guide your steps to begin this journey of deciding which anchor is the best fit for your vessel.
With so many decisions regarding the commissioning of your vessel, it is the spirit of freedom that should guides these decisions. It is this freedom which I believe makes boating is so inviting. Boating allows the spirit of freedom to come and go as it sees fit. In the end, independence exists to serve freedom, freedom exists to serve liberty, and liberty exists to serve the spirit of truth and truthful speech. Finally, it is truthful speech and the spirit of truth that liberates humanity from all things enslaving.
So now that the basic principles of the L.A.I.K.E Life journey have been established, it’s time to commission a vessel of your own, with the captain of your life. Commissioning a new vessel is an exciting moment in a person’s life as the possibilities of new adventures await over the horizon. The old world of tepidity, slavery, and lifelessness are coming to an end. In its place will be this new commission of new vessels with new charters to be unfolded into the world. Let’s go about commissioning our vessels to expand LIFE LIBERTY AND THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS to every person on this earth. The Light of LIBERTY awaits…..Your vessel is already resonating in the divine realm.…it’s time to become in tune with The SPIRIT OF TRUTH in your own life to slow down that dream of your vessel into reality. Long live the spirit of those alive with being anointed (a.k.a. CHRIST)!
