Setting out on any journey, one needs a purpose, direction, and commitment. Many lives today live in a vague sense of all of these "virtues" if you will. This vagueness can often lead to outcomes that are not desired or intended. With that said, how does a person become confident that the direction they are going is the right way to go? I would like for you to consider that the image of God you carry with you is quintessential to getting the direction of your journey correct.
Often assumed but seldom considered, the image of God you live with will affect your daily actions and thereby your journey's destination. Ask any guide and they will tell you that even a slight change of trajectory can lead to being miles off course of the intended destination. This principle too applies to society at large. As with most civilizations there have been many ideas about who God is and how he "acts" in the world. These ideas about God will affect the morals and virtues that are considered to be societal norms. The outcomes of those societies are dictated by these morals and virutes. Often times theses societal norms interfere with the authentic identity of God as he plainly appears to us. These societal "norms" often corrupt the child like image of God we are born with.
If we are being honest, many individuals get annoyed with topics about God because they have such little understanding of the topics, or their own image of God makes them uncomfortable. This is often caused by societal assumptions about who God is and how that image juxtaposes their own way of living and being. Sorting out the difference between societal assumptions about God and ones own image of God can be a great way to begin clarifying where one truly belongs in this world. Upon clarifying one's image of God, the overarching quality of one's soul will be peace. It is this undeniable sense of peace that will make moving forward becomes much easier, as if an anchor has been lifted from the muk of the lake water below.
Getting your true north established will require a deep reflection into your soul to address the topic of the image of God you live with. It requires an intentional sifting of the wheat from the chaff in your own life. At the end of the day Truth will win. So start asking yourself if deep down inside you are living true to your authentic identity. This true identity will be known when the fruits of the Holy Spirit manifest in your life in full. These include love patience, peace, joy, generosity, kindness understanding, self control, faithfulness. (Galatians 5:22-23). If you are lacking in many of these areas, its time to recalibrate by getting in touch with the True God and surrender the image of the old god.
The image of God you grew up with will ultimately affect the direction of your life as it affects the decisions you make on a subconscious level. Clarifying this image before embarking on your journey will save yourself a lot of wasted time and resources. Having a clear image of the True God and a living relationship with Him, is your TRUE NORTH
